An Emotional Experience
Thinking of buying or selling a home? Having serious thoughts in this
direction? Be forewarned…The experience ahead is an emotional
roller-coaster to say the least. It is definitely exciting to think
about your new place.
Maybe you will be getting that extra space that you so desperately need.
Maybe the kids have moved out and you can finally downsize. Please know
that during this time, it is perfectly normal to become nervous,
short-tempered with family members (especially with a spouse or
significant other) and be in an overall state of unrest. But why? Moving
is an extremely taxing experience. Even if you are totally thrilled to
be going to your “Dream House,” your life is in an unsettled state of
flux. The family is giving up the place known as home; the familiar
place of comfort where members gather at the end of a busy day. In
addition, relocation is often accompanied by an emotional life altering
change such as marriage, divorce or a new baby. Then consider the
financial aspect of it all. Hundreds of thousands of dollars are on the
line—enough to make any hardworking person a bit tense.
So when it is your turn to buy and/or sell, take the plunge and enjoy
yourself; but, keep your eyes open and recognize the reality of what is
happening. Keep your perspective and know this stress is short-lived.
