Design Trends That
Attract Buyers
Today’s housing market is slow-moving with a large stockpile available
for sale. Many of our towns have over 9 months of inventory when a
typical “balanced” market equals only four months. With so many houses
on the market, buyers are extremely particular. How does a seller make
his house more attractive to buyers? Hopefully the house has a nice
location, is priced correctly and is in updated condition. For the
basics in remodeling, just look at ads in the Sunday newspaper. You will
see an offering of stainless steel appliances including “big ticket”
washers and dryers, solid surface countertops of granite and other
stone-like materials as well as an array of lighting systems.
Additionally, buyers want a more imaginative look utilizing building
materials that were not commonly used in the past. Though hardwood
flooring is highly desirable, slate and porcelain tiling is becoming
popular. Copper sinks and fireplace hoods are visually interesting and
distinctive. Limestone is being used more and more. Thus, if a seller
wants to sell in a timely fashion, the house will need to be updated and
in top condition. The house will have to “WOW” the buyer or it will sit
on the market and become an inventory statistic!
