Home Additions
Many just
love their homes and/or neighborhoods, but find that the current house
is just too small to accommodate the growing needs of the family. What
to do? One option is to find a larger model in the same subdivision and
move. That is great if the development is large, the turnover of houses
is high and that larger model is available. Maybe you do not like the
larger model or it does not meet your needs…then what? Suppose you feel
that your location in the subdivision is perfect and moving just does
not appeal to you. At this time, the thought of a “home addition” starts
to form in your mind; however, is this an option that will provide a
good value? Generally speaking the answer is “no.” Most of us live in a
“non-custom” home located in a subdivision developed by a builder
offering five to seven models. These communities are well-planned as
only specific elevations and models can be placed on certain lots. A
costly “home addition” disturbs the architectural style often resulting
in an odd-looking structure. Secondly, the addition can make the house
seem out of place and too large for the neighborhood. Finally, when the
house is ultimately sold, the seller usually does not recoup the
investment. So…love and enjoy your house for what it is. If it no longer
fits the needs of the family, move on.
